CIFT provides the following services for greenhouses:
Constantly increasing energy costs pose a threat to the profitability of Ohio's greenhouse operators. CIFT environmental engineers develop energy models for greenhouse operations that identify inefficient practices and make recommendations for improvement. Cost savings estimates, implementation cost, and payback period are included in the energy assessment. Operation and maintenance costs are analyzed through a review of utility bills and facility records. A breakdown of overall energy costs by greenhouse range/section also may be conducted. Such insight into relative efficiencies assists operators in making profit enhancing business decisions.
Utilizing a network of university researchers, government agencies, and equipment manufacturers and suppliers, CIFT’s team of engineers identifies and develops plans for installing and operating new or existing technology and equipment that enable significant improvements in greenhouse efficiency. Demonstration projects provide practical applications and information about implementing technology into an operational environment.
In order to clearly identify energy improvements, the overall structure and design of the greenhouse must be analyzed for efficiency. CIFT, and its knowledge bank of industry professionals, can make recommendations on alternative and additional facility designs. Such facility design improvements include corn burner systems, shading options, structure layout, boiler systems, and more. The combination of past operational costs and new market applications pose unique opportunities for each greenhouse operation. CIFT advises operators on decisions that are in line with short and long-term business objectives.
