When we hear the phrase "buy local", our thoughts lead us to our local agriculture products: vast fields of tomatoes and sweet corn, along with great apples. But there is another world of "local". There are many manufactured foods that are made right here in Northwest Ohio. Some are not widely known like the milling company that makes wheat gluten. There are unique companies that make mustards for private companies, candy makers, pasta makers, pizza manufacturers and those that grow and mix spice rubs.

Buying local is now being promoted by many cities and counties. The idea of buying local has been around for many years, especially here in Toledo and the surrounding communities. Just stop at a light and count how many Jeeps you see. The Jeep and its family of SUVs have been made here in Toledo for the better part of a century, and people support Toledo by buying the vehicles. Another reason for buying local: it keeps your neighbors and friends working in the area. They work assembling, producing, trucking, delivering; all these people pay taxes, which helps keep our cities safe and clean, and helps everyone in the neighborhood working.
Buying local also means being proud of what is produced in your own backyard. Some food businesses produce for name brands, which are sold all over the world.
The following is a listing of companies in our own backyard that produce items you see on your grocer's shelf every week. Take a look at the list; read and take pride in knowing these products are from Northwest Ohio.
The list is constantly growing, so check back often to see who has been added.
